Lake Nyasa, also referred to as L. Malawi is located on the south western part of Tanzania and runs through Malawi. Nyasa means ‘lake’ in the local dialect. The lake is shared by three countries – Tanzania, Malawi and Mozambique.
As the third largest lake in Africa, it is 550 Km long and 75 Km wide. It lies in the sided walls of mountain ranges that beautify it.
Other than being a dreamy and romantic destination, L. Nyasa offers opportunities for water sports, underwater views, canoe rides, hikes and fishing. Some parts of the lake like Matema on the northern side, has nice beaches and swimming areas.
The lake is not highly visited site, though it
is rich in crocodiles and hippos.
