Arusha National Park (ANAPA) covers an area of 137 sq. km. It’s one of the smaller and most beautiful National Parks in Tanzania.
Situated only 37 km from Arusha town, the park is very popular for day trips and, it has outstanding features like: the Ngurdoto Crater, Momela Lakes, the highland forest, and Mount Meru (the second highest mountain in Tanzania)
Mt. Kilimanjaro is also visible from the park.
One of the most unique experiences of the park is the ability to combine game drives and nature walks. Other activities that can be taken at the park are: enjoying the smaller trails that crisscross its lower slopes, a three-day trek to reach the crater summit of Mt. Meru and hiking along the lower slopes and paths to rivers and waterfalls. Accommodation is available at the alpine huts.
When it comes to experiencing the fauna, the Abyssinian black and white colombus monkeys, the Vervet monkeys, the red forest duikers, hippos, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, bushbucks and the leopard are some of the wildlife found at the park.
Moreover, over 400 species of birds have been recorded in the park. Some of them include: the Eurasian migrants, which can be seen between October and April.
Other attractions like the ancient fig tree forests, crystal clear waters cascading from mountain streams, gives one a chance to spot Columbus monkeys.
